Chelsea edge ahead Tottenham in bidding for £52m player who wants to join Tottenham in January

Chelsea have been watching Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo and could make a move for him this month.

Chelsea may need to sign a new centre-back with Thiago Silva’s future uncertain, and it looks like Jean-Clair Todibo is one player who they have identified as a potential replacement.

The Blues have scouted the 24-year-old on more than one occasion and are strongly considering a move for him.

Silva’s contract expires at the end of the season and all this talk about Todibo indicates that he is unlikely to sign a new one.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently suggested that Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande would be a more attainable target than Todibo and claimed that the latter could cost around €60m (£52m).

It looks like Chelsea are deciding whether they should launch an official bid for Todibo or not.

They are not the only ones who like Todibo, though. According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have also shown an interest in the Frenchman and he is keen on a move to north London.

Spurs are above Chelsea in the table, but what the Blues obviously have going for them is money. They have not been afraid to splash the cash under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Fabrizio Romano has also reported on X that Tottenham are actually looking at another central defender right now, Radu Dragusin, so perhaps Chelsea will not have to worry about their London rivals.

Silva is still performing for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side; he has only missed one Premier League game this season. You can argue that the Brazilian does not actually need to be replaced yet.

For whatever reason, though, it seems like Chelsea are not too keen on handing him a new contract and are leaning towards signing someone such as Todibo to succeed him.
