Chelsea are set to have the upper hand in any potential transfer battle for Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra.
While the Italian outlet claims that Juventus are interested in Habib Diarra, they say Chelsea have a “privileged channel” for a potential deal due to the fact that the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly also has a stake in Strasbourg.
It should hand Chelsea an advantage if they do decide to make a move for the 19-year-old at some point.
BlueCo, the consortium fronted by Boehly, bought their majority stake in Strasbourg in the summer.
Habib Diarra could be a simple transfer for Chelsea
Because of that link between Chelsea and Strasbourg, Diarra could be a pretty straightforward transfer for the Blues in a blow to Juventus.
It is probably one reason why Boehly wants this multi-club model, so that Chelsea can snap up young and talented players easily from certain leagues in Europe and across the entire globe.
Some may not like it, but that is the avenue Chelsea’s new owners have decided to go down.
Is someone like Diarra going to improve Chelsea now? Possibly not, he looks like one for the future at 19.
A lot of the club’s planning seems to be with the future in mind. But Boehly and Clearlake Capital cannot forget about the present, especially with Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling right now. They could perhaps do with some more experienced players and not just youngsters who have the potential to become something special in a few years’ time.
